Room 8 - Making Nets into 3D Shapes

Last Week Room 8 looked at 3D shapes and where they were in their classroom and in the real world. We then had a go at making our own 3D paper shapes. Here is some of their learning.

Picasso Art

Room 9 are beginning to finish their Picasso Art, here are some beautiful and bright finished pieces!

Room 6 - Wassily Kadinsky 'Concentric Circle' inspired tree art!

I was lucky enough to spend two whole days with Room 6 this week! We learned about an artist called Wassily Kadinsky. He was born in Russia and painted all sorts of abstract art - some had shapes in them and we had fun finding the shapes in his paintings. We had a go at drawing 'circles inside circles inside circles' like he did in his painting 'Concentric Circles' below.
Room 6 used pastels to create their concentric circles. Then we dyed a background and pasted our tree together. Look at the beautiful result of them hanging in Room 6!

Shapes, shapes, shapes - in Room 5!

This Week in Room 5 we looked at shapes in real life. We looked at a picture of a building, a brick wall, a ramp and a house. We found shapes in all of these real world objects - a triangle and a square in the ramp, square and rectangle bricks in the wall, square and rectangle windows and a semi-circle window in the building, and a square window, triangle roof, and rectangle doors and windows in the house. Then we had a go at making our own house and buildings with plastic shapes. Take a look!

We also looked at the difference between a circle and oval, and a square and rectangle - and where we could find these shapes in the classroom...

Then we cut and pasted some shapes onto a house. Room 5 had a wonderful and busy shape filled morning!

Pablo Picasso

In Room 9 we have been learning about Pablo Picasso. We looked at some facts about Picasso and Cubism and had a practice drawing like Picasso did. We are still part way through and will post a class picture of the finished art.

Making 3D cubes in Room 7

In Room 7 this week we have looked at how 2D shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles and circles can be 'faces' of 3D shapes like pyramids, cubes and spheres. We looked for cube shapes around the classroom and found a CD and the computer screen were cube shapes. At home we know that a cereal box is a cube shape too. As a class we looked at what would happen if we cut a cereal box up and stuck it back together, and then had a go at making our own 3D cubes. Check it out!

Making 'Nets' in Room 8

This week Room 8 made 'nets'. Nets are like patterns that when folded and glued together make a 3D shape. We discussed rectangular box shapes like doors, cereal boxes and thick books, and cube shapes like a box or a dice, and what they may look like when unfolded and layed flat. Then we had a go at drawing and making our own nets.

Fantastic Mr Fox - Alliterations

We have almost finished reading Fantastic Mr Fox in Room 9. On Thursday we looked at 'alliteration' and how Roald Dahl uses it in his writing, and even had a go at making up our own. Watch this space for more Fanastic Mr Fox learning.

Bird Shape Art - Room 6

Room 6 have been learning about shapes this term. On Friday we made some fantastic bird shape art. Look at our wonderful creations!

How do Hot Air Balloons work?

In Room 9, we have been looking at Hot Air Balloons and how they work. We brainstormed things we wanted to find out, and used the chrome books to write out some facts. Then we created some colourful Hot Air Balloon art. Here are some pictures of our learning this week.
